Jumbo Rabbits

What we do

We breed and raise jumbo rabbits in Akita Prefecture, and also raise them at our own base in Hachioji. They are a large breed, with demand as pets and for exhibition.

Sales (as pets and for exhibition)

We do not currently hold a licence for meat sales, so we sell them as pets and for exhibition only.

• Price: ¥10,000 per kg, or roughly ¥50,000 per rabbit (jumbo rabbits weigh around 5 kg)
• Three breeding seasons a year (October, January, April). Rabbits become available roughly six months later (April, July, October)
• Season: available for shipping between April and November (let us know your preferred timing)

Delivery (live transport by our own transport business)

Live transport is handled by our own transport division. Delivery fees vary with distance. Long-distance deliveries are made over two days with an overnight stay, so they cost more than an ordinary courier — but the safety of the animal comes first.

• Kanto area (same-day round trip): approximately ¥30,000
• Outside Kanto (6–7 hours by expressway): approximately ¥60,000 (calculated from tolls both ways, fuel, accommodation and a daily allowance)
• Further afield (over 7 hours by expressway): additional cost depending on distance and nights required (quoted case by case)
• Nationwide delivery is possible, but please understand it costs more than a standard courier

Requirements and cautions before purchase

Jumbo rabbits are large and delicate animals. Please read the following carefully.

• One cage per rabbit is required (housing several together leads to fighting, injury and unplanned breeding)
• No mortality guarantee is offered (rabbits are sensitive to environmental change and stress, so we cannot guarantee survival during or after transport and handover)
• Redelivery is not possible for live animals (we also cannot hold them if you are out, so please specify a time when you can receive the rabbit)

Where this is going

Using the Jumbo Rabbit Festival as a starting point, we are accumulating breeding and husbandry know-how and working towards a brand. We are also exploring sales and partner channels, and use as a tourism asset (petting experiences and the like).
